Martin is a British jazz musician, composer and music educator who has been a part of the London jazz community since the late 1980’s. He works with many ensembles covering a wide range of styles, playing saxophones, clarinets, flute and piano. He composes and arranges his own music for small and large ensembles and leads his own occasional groups.
As a performer, he is probably best known for his long associations with the late jazz pianist / composer Michael Garrick, trumpeter / composer Loz Speyer, and as a long-standing member of the London Jazz Orchestra, where his playing and compositions are regularly featured. He co-founded the East Side Jazz Club in Leytonstone, East London with drummer Clive Fenner in 1994, and was a resident performer at the club during its first four years. More recently, he has become a regular player with the Southend-based drummer Trevor Taylor, featuring in many of his projects.
